a home in the woods

this house was designed for a young family.  the family wanted the house to feel private but still very open, letting in the surrounding nature and an abundance of light.  they wanted definition between public and private spaces in the home but no so much that they felt separated.  this project used a variety of materials with each of them complimenting and balancing the other.

the design was sensitive to the site in a variety of ways. an old logging trail was used for the driveway in order not to have to remove many trees or grade any of the hill.  the house was also repositioned during the initial stake out to accommodate a 150 year old vibrate tree at the front of the home.
